GCSE and IGCSE extra time: what assessment evidence may be needed?

Exam access arrangements are governed by school and awarding-body requirements. Assessment evidence can be one part of a wider process.

Extra time is not simply a test score

Schools normally need to consider the candidate’s needs, evidence and normal way of working within the rules that apply to the relevant examination system.

What assessment can contribute

Where appropriate, assessment can provide standardised evidence about areas such as processing, literacy or other learning demands. The school or examination body makes the final decision under its applicable rules.

Plan early

Families should speak with the school as early as possible because evidence requirements, deadlines and accepted arrangements can vary.
